New Avicularia amazonicas!

I purchased two young Avicularia amzonicas (AKA Amazon Giant Pink Toe) a little over a month ago and they are both doing great. One of them is definitely a female but the other was too small at the time to determine the sex. They both molted within a week of purchasing them. Even though they are small their color is already great. I’m told they are really impressive as adults. Information on amazonicas is almost non existent on the web.

I am working hard to write an accurate care sheet for the species. If anyone has any experience with them I would love to get any information you can provide.

Although many species of invertebrates, amphibians, and reptiles are in plentiful numbers in the wild, some are not, and many we simply don't know enough about. Some species are being collected in large numbers from quite localised populations. This may have devastating long term effects on these species in the wild.

Captive bred animals are typically free of parasites, of known age, we know how to keep them and can pass on useful information which will help your success, and you are not contributing to the exploitation of some fragile wild populations.

Unless you are trying to establish captive-bred populations of species that are not readily available in the hobby in order to prevent further collecting of wild populations, please try to refrain from purchasing wild-caught whenever possible.

It would be a great shame if the very people fascinated by these animals were to contribute to their demise by supporting the mass wild collection of them.
